These terms apply to everyone using SecretsMonkey, with or without an account. They are kept short and written in plain language.
What the service does
SecretsMonkey turns a password, key or note into a link that works exactly as often as you set and then destroys itself. Meant for handing over something confidential, not for storage.
The service is explicitly not an archive and not a backup. A secret that has been viewed or has expired is gone — for us too. We cannot bring it back, however urgent the request.
Your account
An account is free and optional. You are responsible for the credentials you sign in with and for what happens under your account.
You may close your account at any time by deleting it under Settings. We may close an account when it is used in breach of these terms.
What is not allowed
The service exists to transfer confidential information safely. Not for this:
- Distributing material that is unlawful, or data you are not allowed to share.
- Sending harmful files, or links intended to deceive someone.
- Creating or walking links automatically, outside the interfaces provided.
- Circumventing or testing the limits and security without our prior permission.
- Using the service in a way that harms its availability for others.
Availability
We do our best to keep the service running, but give no guarantee of uninterrupted availability. Maintenance, faults and attacks from outside can make the service temporarily unreachable.
Plan around that: do not send a link as a last chance at a moment when it really has to work.
Liability
The service is provided as it is. We are not liable for damage arising from its use, including the loss of a secret that has expired or had already been viewed, and consequential damage of any kind.
This limitation does not apply in cases of intent or wilful recklessness on our part.
You are responsible for what you share and with whom. Whoever holds the link can open the secret: that is the design, and it means sending a link to the wrong address cannot be undone.
Changes
We may amend these terms. The date at the top then moves forward, and for a material change account holders are notified by email. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply.
Applicable law
Dutch law applies to these terms. Disputes are submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands.
